Oregon State Wins 110TH Edition of The Civil War

44,015 fans packed Reser Stadium and braved the rain and the wind to watch a game that will surely be remember by Beavers fans for years to come.


Beavers placekicker Alexis Serna kicked a 40-yard field goal with 1:12 left as Oregon State beat the Oregon Ducks, 30-28, to win the 110th edition of the Civil War.

CORVALLIS - Oregon State fans have a lot to be thankful for this Holiday weekend.

For Oregon fans, Friday brought heartbreak and frustration after a 30-28 loss to the Beavers in the 110th edition of the Civil War.

Beavers placekicker Alexis Serna kicked a 40-yard field goal with 1:12 left, and Oregon State defensive lineman Ben Siegert blocked Matt Evensen 44-yard potential game-winning kick as Oregon State held on to beat the Ducks, 30-28.

Serna also connected from 49 and 50 yards.

Oregon State quarterback Matt Moore completed 16 of 22 passes for 255 yards and one touchdown.

Sammie Stroughter caught 8 passes for 114 yards and a touchdown for the Beavers.

The biggest bright spot for the Ducks was starting running back Jonathan Stewart who rushed for 94 yards and three touchdowns.

Starting Oregon quarterback Brady Leaf completed 25 of 42 passes for 274 yards and a touchdown. Leaf was also intercepted once, which was returned for a touchdown by the Beavers.

With the win the Beavers move to 8-4 overall and 6-3 in Pac-10 play.

The loss, drops the Ducks to 7-5 overall and 4-5 in the Pac-10.

Oregon will most likely end up playing BYU (9-2 overall and 7-0 MWC) in the 15th Annual Pioneer PureVison Las Vegas Bowl which is set for December 31st.

Kick-off is scheduled for 5:00 PM PST.

Oregon State travels to Hawaii for a game against the Rainbows on Dec. 2nd.

Kickoff has been slated for 8:00 PM PST (6:00 PM HST) from Aloha Stadium.

The Beavers,will be making its first trip to the Islands since the 1999 Oahu Bowl.
