LEWISTON, Idaho - Teran Lee scored 20 points and Steve Thompson came up a rebound short of his first double-double as a Warrior to help the Lewis-Clark State College men’s basketball team defeat Corban College 74-56 in the opening round of the Cannon’s Building Materials Tournament at the LCSC Activity Center on Friday.

In the early contest, Oklahoma City University, ranked No. 2 in the NAIA, defeated Montana State-Northern 65-53.

In Saturday’s action, Montana State-Northern, 4-7 overall, takes on Corban College 1-5, at 6:00 PM, followed by Oklahoma City, 6-0, and LCSC, 3-2, at 8:00 PM.

Lewis-Clark State led Corban throughout the game in the matchup of the two teams nicknamed the Warriors.

LCSC, however, wasn’t able to put the game away until late with a 16-0 run to make it a 71-51 lead.

LCSC coach Tim Walker said his team played fairly uninspired for most of the contest, but gave credit to Corban’s offense for making things difficult on LCSC.

Lee hit 6-of-10 shots from the field and 7-of-7 at the foul line to lead LCSC, while Thompson had 14 points, 10 of which came on offensive rebounds. He also had nine rebounds, seven on the offensive glass.

Mike Gordy also was in double figures for LCSC with 10 points.

LCSC held a 43-31 rebounding advantage and had 19 offensive rebounds to just four for Corban.

LCSC also forced 22 turnovers, which helped LCSC attempt 25 more shots from the field.

LCSC finish 29-of-70 from the field for 41.4 percent, while Corban was 19-of-45, for 42.2 percent.

In the early game, Duane John had 13 points and seven rebounds, while B.J. Walker had 10 points and nine boards to lead OCU, which finished second in the NAIA national tournament last year.

MSU-Northern was paced by Ronnie Simpson’s 14 points.
