Nov-26-2006 18:33Bowl Championship Series Standings from National Football FoundationSalem-News.com SportsThe No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the Dec. 3 BCS standings will play in the Tostitos BCS National Championship Game Jan. 8, 2007 in Glendale, Ariz.
SALEM - The Poll below is courtesy of the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame.
POLL EXPLANATION & ABOUT THE BCS: To derive a team’s poll percentages in the Harris Interactive and USA Today polls, each team’s point total is divided by a maximum 2850 possible points in the Harris Interactive Poll and 1575 possible points in the USA Today Poll. Teams are assigned an inverse point total (25 for #1, 24 for #2, etc.) for each of their respective computer poll rankings to determine the overall computer component. The highest and lowest ranking for each team is dropped, and the sum total of the remaining four rankings is divided by 100 (the maximum possible points). This figure produces a Computer Rankings Percentage.
The six computer ranking providers are Anderson & Hester, Richard Billingsley, Colley Matrix, Kenneth Massey, Jeff Sagarin and Peter Wolfe. Each computer ranking accounts for schedule strength within its formula. The BCS Average is calculated by averaging the percent totals of the Harris Interactive and USA Today Polls, and Computer rankings. The highest BCS Average receives the #1 ranking, the second highest receives #2, and so forth.
The BCS is a five-game arrangement for post-season college football that is managed by the 11 Division I-A conferences and Notre Dame. Its purpose is to match the two top-ranked teams in the final BCS standings in a national championship game and to create competitive match-ups in the four other BCS bowl games.
The No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the Dec. 3 BCS standings will play in the Tostitos BCS National Championship Game Jan. 8, 2007 in Glendale, Ariz. The winner of the game will be presented the American Football Coaches Association National Championship Trophy. For more information, visit http://www.bcsfootball.org.

I am not going to lobby for michigan because that is what u expect. Since everyone says you have to win a coference title to play in the big game, then why are we not talking about Louisville? or as much as i hate to say it Boise State? i mean both won their cofernece title U of L has one lost to a pretty good rutgers squad and Boise State has an unblimished record why cant either of those teams go? and yes U of M is the # 2 team in the natiopn but they wont play again cause the voters are biased and need to be told to never vote again. Anonymous December 3, 2006 3:41 pm Michigan's schedule was weak, at best. Mike Reagan December 3, 2006 10:10 am The system has always been biased. It is all about money and not really who is a National Champion. The BCS is looking at filling up stadiums and hotels more than who really is the best in the Country. It is time for a play-off system and scrap the BCS. tj sevario December 1, 2006 7:43 am CAN YOU SAY PLAY-OFF? It is simple, all you have to do is take the top 8 teams in the land and let them go after each other. Wow no math, no computers, just good football watching with little contreversy Jerry Hoover November 30, 2006 11:20 am True, the ranking system may suck, but if OSU beats USC it could be argued that this team is the best college football team of all time. What other #1 team has knocked off three #2 teams in a single season? GO BUCKS!!! abinash November 27, 2006 1:53 pm fine information A. J. Summe November 27, 2006 12:37 pm The two best teams in the nation should be playing for the national title (Ohio State and Michigan). Who would not want to see a rematch that could go either way? If it ends up being Ohio State and USC in the title game, I hope USC gets blown out so sportswriters and the ranking system prove to be full of *#%^! Dave Corso November 27, 2006 10:12 am FOR USC TO BE RANKED OVER THE WOLVERINES IS A STATISTICAL ANOMOLY! HOW CAN LOSING TO AN UNRANKED TEAM BE BETTER THAN LOSING TO THE #1 TEAM BY 3 POINTS???? IT IS LIKE TELLING THE STUDENTS IN A CLASS THAT THOSE WHO SCORED A 95% DID BETTER THAN THOSE WHOSCORED A 97%???? GOT SENSE....EVIDENTLY NOT:) carl lutz November 27, 2006 6:54 am USC loses to a non ranked team, Michigan loses to the number one team. USC is ranked ahead of Michigan? The ranking system has lost creditability along with the sportswriters. Adding comments to these stories has been disabled.
