Nov-06-2006 11:28Women's Volleyball: Wildcats Advance to West RegionalSalem-News.com SPORTSThe Wildcats (21-2), the West Region’s No. 2 seed, face seventh-seeded Colorado College (23-10) in the opening round Thursday at 3:30 PM.
McMINNVILLE - Fresh from capturing a share of its second Northwest Conference title in four years, the Linfield Wildcats are headed to southern California this week to compete in the NCAA Division III West Regional, hosted by the University of La Verne. NWC rival Pacific Lutheran (20-6), which tied Linfield for the NWC crown, received an at-large berth and will meet sixth-seeded Redlands (20-6) in the first round at 6:00 PM. The other first-day pairing has No. 4 California Lutheran (15-5) against No. 5 Cal State-East Bay (27-8) at 8:30 PM Host La Verne (27-2) has a bye on the first day. The single-elimination tournament continues Friday with semifinal matches. The Linfield/Colorado College winner would meet the PLU/Redlands winner at 4:30 PM. La Verne would then take on the CLU/CSU-East Bay winner at 7:00 PM. Those winners would battle for the regional championship on Saturday. Linfield is making its fourth NCAA postseason appearance since changing affiliation from the NAIA in 1998. Last season, the Wildcats reached the West Region semifinals before bowing out to tournament host Whitworth.
