Nov-08-2006 10:10Women's Tennis: Oregon Hosts Duck Classic to Close Out Fall SeasonSalem-News.com SPORTSThe tournament will feature much of the top talent in the northwest, including players from rival Washington, Boise State, Santa Clara, Eastern Washington, and Portland.
EUGENE - No. 27 ranked Dominika Dieskova and the Oregon Ducks close out their fall season by hosting the Duck Classic this weekend at the Student Tennis Center and Eugene Swim and Tennis Club. Dieskova will be seeded as the number one seed in flight one of the tournament, which will begin at 9:00 AM Friday at the Student Tennis Center. The women’s tournament will resume play Saturday at the Eugene Swim and Tennis Club at 11:00 AM, before shifting back to the Student Tennis Center Sunday, where they will share the courts with the men’s tournament, which is running concurrently, for final round action. Consolation matches will be played at Eugene Swim and Tennis Club on Sunday. In other Oregon first round matches, the Ducks only other senior, Monica Hoz de Vila, will face Eastern Washington’s Claudia Gonzalez in the opening round of flight two. Back in the main draw, sophomore Anna Powaska will take on Portland’s Jenna Tanzer, Ana Cecilia Olivos will open with a bye and will face the winner of Boise State’s Jana Mackova and Sayaka Yoshimoto of Eastern Washington. Carmen Seremeta will begin the tournament against Erika Barnes of Santa Clara and sophomore Claudia Hirt will take on Kim Daniel of Santa Clara. Freshman Simone Templeton rounds out the Duck participants, opening the tournament against second-seeded Allison Rainey of Washington in the second flight. The No. 12 ranked pairing of Dieskova and Ana Cecilia Olivos will also be seeded atop the doubles draw and will face Washington’s pairing of Melinda Wong and Allison Rainey to open up the tournament. The two other Duck doubles teams participating in the tournament will be the pair of Seremeta and Hirt, who will battle Eastern Washington’s Marie Demarath and Amanda Mankovits, and Hoz de Vila and Powaska, who will face EWU’s Claudia Gonzales and Yoshimoto.
