CORVALLIS - Oregon State softball head coach Kirk Walker announced on Wednesday that four student-athletes have signed national letters of intent to play next season for the Beavers.

Karmen Holladay, of Corvallis, OR, Erin Guzy, of Beaverton, OR, Audrey Roderfeld, of Vista, CA, and McKenna Lowe, of Tustin, CA, will join the OSU squad for the 2008 season.

“We’re very excited about this class,” said Walker. “It’s a very talented class at several different positions and all of the student-athletes have the ability to make an immediate impact on our program.”

Holladay, a local product from Corvallis High School, is a three-time All-Valley League selection and was named team MVP as a junior. Seeing playing time as the pitcher and the designated player, Holladay controls the game from both the circle and the plate. Holladay was a member of the Oregon Panthers summer team that placed 25th at Gold Nationals.

“We’re really excited about Karmen – she is born and raised in Corvallis and has grown up going to our camps and clinics,” said Walker. “She is the first athlete that we have really recruited from within the city and is passionate about joining our team. She’s got great talent in the circle and is a tremendous hitter with a lot of power.”

Guzy will come to OSU after graduating from Southridge High School. A two-time All-State selection and a first team All-Metro League honoree, she helped her team win the Oregon Class 4A State Championship as a sophomore. Guzy was also a member of the Oregon Panthers team that placed 25th at Gold Nationals.

“Erin is coming out of a great high school program at Southridge and is a very dynamic hitter,” said Walker. “She has played at a very high and competitive level for a number of years and we expect some big things out of her. When I first saw her play as a sophomore, she reminded me of an All-American first baseman that I coached at UCLA.”

Roderfeld will join the Beaver squad after graduating from Vista High School near San Diego. A first team All-North County and first team All-CIF San Diego Section honoree, Roderfeld was inducted into the San Diego Hall of Champions. She was named Avacado League Player of the Year as a junior, and helped her team earn the Palomar League Championship as a sophomore. Her California Cruisers summer team placed 3rd at Gold Nationals.

“Audrey is the first student-athlete we had commit in this signing class and we’re excited she chose Oregon State over several other top schools in the country,” said Walker. “She’s a tremendous athlete as a catcher and power hitter, and we will certainly see her contributing in the line-up right away.”

Lowe will come to Oregon State after graduating from Foothill High School where she was named team MVP as a junior and earned second team All-CIF Orange County Section honors. She also played on the So Cal Athletics summer team that finished 5th at Gold Nationals. A familiar name to anyone who follows Pac-10 softball, she is the younger sister of Oregon State second baseman Paige Lowe and Arizona senior outfielder Caitlin Lowe.

“We’re very excited McKenna decided to come to Oregon State and she is another tremendous athlete from the Lowe family,” said Walker. “She has great speed and can both slap and hit from the plate. She’ll make an immediate impact for us in the outfield and could potentially play in the infield as well.”
