Oregon State Finishes Third at Cal Tournament

FAIRFAX, Calif. - Led by two top-5 individual finishes, the Oregon State men's golf team finished the Alister MacKenzie Invitational, hosted by Cal, in 3rd place on Tuesday.

It was a tournament for the record books for the Beavers as their second round score of 7-under-par 277 tied for 3rd lowest team single-round score in Oregon State history.

Their tournament total of 4-under-par 848 (284-277-287) ties for the 4th lowest team three-round score.

California won the tournament at the par-71 Meadow Club Course with a score of 826 (268-275-283).

Diego Velasquez and Mitch Gillis tied for 3rd place with three round totals of 5-under-par 208.

Both scores tie the 6th lowest three-round individual scores in OSU history. Gillis’ (73-66-69) second round 66 ties for 5th lowest single round score in school history.

Velasquez (68-69-71) finished the final round with an even-par 71.

James Allenby finished with 216 (69-73-74) which placed him in a tied for 25th.

Alex Williams tied for 52nd with 221 (74-74-73). Jeremiah Oliver finished tied for 65th with 224 (76-69-79).

The Beavers return to Oregon for a week off before heading to Bandon Dunes, Ore. to participate in the Pac-10/Big-10 Challenge at the Pacific Dunes Golf Course (Oct. 23-24).
