McMINNVILLE - Linfield withstood a spirited rally to defeat Pacific 1-0 Friday in Northwest Conference women’s soccer.

Linfield’s Amber Calcagno scored her first goal of the season, a drive to the lower-left corner from 16 yards in front on a give-and-go play from Chelsey Stoltz 13:32 into the game.

Jenna Johnson-Endo, Meghan Fredette and Laura Hill each had clear shots in the second half, but they sailed wide or high. Kaleigh Stubblefield put both of hers on goal but they were stopped by Linfield’s Allison Cartmill, who made five saves altogether.

Pacific goalkeeper Shannon Tillman made seven of her eight saves in the first half.

Hill and Fredette, neither of whom started, and Linfield’s Stoltz and Kate Franklin were leaders in shots taken with three each.

With the win, Linfield improved to 3-4-2 in the conference and 5-6-2 overall, equaling the Wildcats’ victory totals for last season with seven games left to play. Pacific falls to 0-8-1 and 2-8-2 with the loss.
