Oregon School for the Deaf Hosts Annual Volleyball Invitational

SALEM - The Oregon School for the Deaf hosted their first of what will be an annual Volleyball Invitational on Friday October 13th and Saturday October 14th. The Eddyville Eagles won the final showdown of the six female volleyball teams from as close as Falls City to as far away as Idaho.

Playing in the two-day tournament were the Oregon School for the Deaf Panthers, Idaho School for the Deaf and Blind Raptors, Washington School for the Deaf Lady Terriers, Eddyville Charter School Eagles, Perrydale Pirates, and the Falls City Mountaineers.

The Oregon School for the Deaf kicked off the tournament by beating the Idaho School for the Deaf and Blind in two straight match-ups. The ISDB Raptors kept in the games with only six players on the roster. Scores were OSD 25-ISDB 18 and OSD 25-ISDB 11 respectively.

Moving on to the next round, the OSD Panthers took on the Eddyville Eagles. The Eagles dominated in game number one with a score of Eagles 25, Panthers 12. Although game number two was more competitive, the Eagles continued have the Panthers number with a score of Eagles 25, Panthers 14.

Day number two of the tournament saw OSD first take on the Falls City Mountaineers. Falls City has been a tough competitor this season, but OSD pulled out a win in both games.

The score for game number one was OSD 25, Falls City 9. The Mountaineers served first, but #21 Jeri Beth Watson of OSD took possession back with a kill. Team Captain #1 Brenna DeBartolo then stepped up with four consecutive aces.

Game number two against Falls City was much more competitive with a score of OSD 25, Mountaineers 22. #14 Erica Vasquez started off the game strong for OSD with two aces and # 22 Alyssa Bedinger continued the trend with three more aces early in the game.

With these wins in hand, OSD moved on to play the Perrydale Pirates. The winner of this series would go to the final round.

OSD took the first game with a score of OSD 25, Pirates 22. This game remained close, but OSD maintained the lead. Team Captain, #1 Brenna DeBartolo had multiple kills and #15 Tiffany Hill kept defense strong with numerous saves.

Perrydale took the second game with a score of Pirates 25, OSD 20. OSD’s #31 Melissa McCain hit two aces late in the game, but Perrydale still took the win.

With a win from both teams, a third game was needed to determine who went to the final round. The Perrydale Pirates prevailed in a short game against the OSD Panthers with a score of Pirates 15, OSD 10.

To wrap up the invitational, the Eddyville Eagles took on the Perrydale Pirates. Two games determined the winner of the tournament and the Eddyville Eagles were victorious. In the final game, the Eagles won with a score of Eddyville 25, Perrydale 15.

Congratulations to the Eddyville Eagles and to all of the teams who participated in the first OSD Volleyball Invitational. Many teams came from significant distances to participate and helped make this a positive and competitive tournament.
