Oct-21-2006 20:15Western Oregon Men Fourth, Women Sixth at GNAC’sSalem-News.com SPORTSSeattle Pacific won the women’s crown and Western Washington captured the men’s meet, with Alaska Anchorage claiming second place in both races.
LACEY, Wash. - Western Oregon’s men finished fourth and the women were sixth among ten teams today at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference cross country championships at Saint Martin’s University in Lacey, Wash. David Kiplagat of UAA ran away from all competitors in the men’s field, clocking 24:28 on the eight kilometer course. Sam Scotchmer of Central Washington was second in 24:49. Senior Nick Crawford was WOU’s top finisher in 15th place, with a time of 25:50. The Vikings took the male team title with 35 points, followed by Alaska Anchorage with 53. Seattle Pacific was third (86) and WOU was next at 104. Heavy favorite SPU held off UAA for the women’s crown, 34-44. Central Washington was a distant third (93), and Western Oregon was sixth with 131. Freshman Jessica Pixler of Seattle Pacific was the individual winner, edging UAA’s Mandy Kaempf. Pixler ran the six kilometer course in 21:10, while Kaempf crossed the line in 21:13. Katie Hummel of CWU was a close third in 21:17. WOU’s top placer was freshman Alee Rowley, who was 21st in 23:17.
