Oct-22-2006 16:17Everett Doubles Up Portland 4-2Salem-News.com SPORTSEverett finished the night 3 for 8 on the man advantage while Portland went 1 for 6.
PORTLAND - The Everett Silvertips got three power play goals to propel the visiting team to a 4-2 win over the Portland Winter Hawks on Saturday night at the Memorial Coliseum in front of 4168 fans.
Everett got goals from Jason Fransoo, Zach Hamill, Eric Doyle and Moises Gutierrez while Portland countered with single markers from Rob Klinkhammer and the first career goal of 17 year old forward Matt Sokol.
Goaltender Chris Ward made his first ever WHL start in net for Portland and stopped 26 of 30 shots against the team that drafted him in the 4th round of the Bantam Draft. At the other end, 18 year old Leland Irving stopped 29 of 31 shots in route to the victory.
Everett finished the night 3 for 8 on the man advantage while Portland went 1 for 6.
Scratches for the Hawks were Cameron Cepek (broken jaw), Scott Gabriel, Chip Petrino, Tayler Jordan and Devon Marshall all due to numbers. Scratches for Everett were Ondrej Fiala (shoulder), Mike Alexander, Tyler Hlookoff, Jonathan Milhouse, and Jesse Burt all due to numbers.
Next up for the Hawks is on the road tomorrow night against the Chilliwack Bruins, game time is 5:00, pre-game show starting at 4:50 PM at www.winterhawks.com. Next home game is next Friday night when the Kamloops Blazers visit the Memorial Coliseum. Game time is 7:30 live on Comcast CNW 14.
