TACOMA, Wash. - George Fox University goalkeeper Jessica Cardwell fended off a furious Pacific Lutheran University offensive attack during two 10-minute overtime periods, enabling the Bruins to hang on for 0-0 tie with the Lutes in a Northwest Conference women’s soccer match Sunday afternoon at the PLU Soccer Field.

The teams battled on relatively even terms through 90 minutes of regulation play, Pacific Lutheran taking 12 shots to seven for George Fox.

The Lutes got three shots in the first overtime to none for the Bruins, then launched seven shots and had their best scoring chances in the second overtime.

Cardwell made two outstanding saves within a few seconds of each other around the 103rd minute, first stopping a shot by Jenny McKinsey, then knocking away the rebound effort by Christina McDuffie.

Cardwell finished with 10 saves, five in the overtime periods, facing 22 PLU shots while posting her second straight shutout and fourth of the season. PLU keeper Alyssa Blackburn had four routine saves on a total of eight shots by the Bruins.
