TUCSON, Ariz. - The Oregon State women’s soccer team was hoping for its first-ever road sweep of the desert schools, but 24th-ranked Arizona came away with a 2-0 victory in Pacific-10 Conference play on Sunday afternoon.

“We just came out and didn’t play very well early in the game, more than anything else,” OSU Coach Steve Fennah said. “We put ourselves in a hole. In the second half we played better and created some opportunities. But we really hurt ourselves by not coming out fast.”

Arizona’s Analisa Marquez scored the first goal in the 34th minute, and Gianna DeSaverio added the second in the 54th minute.

“On the first goal, we gave the ball away in our own half, they got a kid behind and her shot deflected past the goalkeeper,” Fennah said. “On the second goal, they put a ball over the top and we didn’t clear it, and they ran through for the score. Both goals were errors by us. We have to learn from this experience and our mistakes.”

The Beavers play their first Pac-10 home games next weekend when they host Washington State Friday, and Washington on Sunday.

Goals: Analisa Marquez (Gianna DeSaverio), ARIZ, 33:33; Gianna DeSaverio (Kaity Heath), ARIZ, 53:56.
