FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Alaska Nanooks earned a season split with Western Oregon, winning a marathon batttle on Saturday night at the Patty Center with a 25-30, 32-30, 30-25, 29-31, 15-11 victory.

With the win, Alaska avenged a loss to the Wolves just two weeks ago in Monmouth. The victory also improved the Nanooks record to 4-11 on the season, 3-5 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. Western Oregon dropped to 6-13 on the year and 4-5 in conference play.

Trailing two games to one, WOU battled back to win a tense game four, closing a 29-29 contest with kills by Shakira Jenkins and Lisa Martini to win 31-29. But the hosts led for virtually all of game five, breaking an early 5-5 tie and never trailed again.

Jenkins and Katrina Johnson finished with a match-best 21 kills each, and Jenkins added three solo blocks. Laura Sakala had 13 kills and hit .243, while setter Amy Herron had a season-best 60 assists, 14 digs and three service aces.

Clair Carpenter had a 2006-best 30 digs, and Nicole Kludt added 19.

Megan Thigpen led Alaska with 14 kills and 27 digs.
