Sep-10-2006 22:18Zerzan Finishes in Third Place for Willamette Women at Pier Park PreviewSalem-News.com SPORTSThe next action for Willamette's cross country teams will be on Saturday, Sept. 30th, when they host the Willamette Invitational. The event will be held at Bush's Pasture Park.
PORTLAND - Sarah Zerzan led the Willamette University cross country team by taking third place at the Pier Park Preview, hosted by the University of Portland on Friday. Zerzan's time on the 5-kilometer course was 18:24.28, as she finished behind only University of Oregon runners Keara Sammons (17:49.25) and Zoe Nelson (17:56.57). Zerzan led a strong effort by the Bearcats, which included five Top 15 finishers out of 53 entrants on the women's side, plus five runners in the Top 25 in the men's race. Overall, 136 runners competed in the event, with 83 entrants competing in the men's division. Other top runners for Willamette in the women's race were Hanna Vietmeier in seventh place at 19:07.67, Maddie Coffman in 13th place in 19:31.07, Elizabeth Hart, in 14th place with a time of 19:38.46, and Edith Polanco in 15th place at 19:41.06. In the men's race, Willamette's top finisher was Ian Batch, who completed the 4-mile course in 20:53.53. Other top runners for the Bearcats were Lucas Nebert in 19th place with a time of 20:56.32, Taylor Roholt in 20th place at 20:58.67, Alex Jimenez in 23rd place in 21:09.68, Steven Millard in 25th place at 21:12.71, and Chris Platano in 26th place after clocking in at 21:12.87.
