OMAHA, Neb. - The Oregon State men’s soccer team twice came back from one-goal deficits and posted a hard-fought 2-2 tie against Creighton at Morrison Stadium on Friday evening.

It was a good road result for the Beavers, as Creighton (3-2-2) reached the quarterfinals of the 2005 NCAA Tournament. The game was played in front of a crowd of 2,311.

“I thought our guys battled really, really well,” said OSU Coach Dana Taylor, who was an assistant at Creighton from 1995-98. “We worked so hard. This is a tough place to play. The environment was an awesome experience for our guys. We deserved this result with the way we played.”

The only scoring in the first half was a 44th-minute penalty kick by Creighton’s Michael Kraus.

The Beavers evened the score with a penalty kick of their own in the 56th minute. Senior forward Robbie Findley scored his second goal of the season.

Unfortunately, the Bluejays went back on top just 39 seconds later, as Tony Schmitz headed in a long throw-in by Ryan Junge.

Senior forward Bryan Jordan notched the equalizer in the 79th minute, as he headed in a free kick by senior midfielder Lucas Egenwall (Falkenberg, Sweden). It was Jordan’s third goal of the season.

Junior defender Alex Christensen picked up his second yellow card in the 88th minute and was sent off. He will miss Sunday’s game against Drake.

The Bluejays thought they had the game-winner with about a minute and 20 seconds left in regulation, but the Creighton player was offside and the goal was called back.

Playing a man down the rest of the way, the Beavers only mustered two shot attempts in overtime, but kept the Bluejay offense at bay, and the two teams settled for the tie.

Findley and Jordan combined to attempt 12 of OSU’s 16 shots, while Creighton had 19 shots.

The Beavers had a 6-3 advantage on corner kicks.
