SPOKANE, WASHINGTON - The Willamette University women's soccer team gave up an early goal, but rallied for three goals later in the first half on its way to defeating Whitworth College, 3-1, in a Northwest Conference game on Sunday. The Bearcats remained undefeated at 5-0-1 and 2-0 in the NWC. Whitworth, ranked 22nd in this week's NCAA Division II Poll conducted by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), fell to 3-1-1, 1-1 in the conference. The two teams were both ranked in the West Region this week. Whitworth was ranked #3 in the Region. Willamette was tied for #4. Whitworth led 1-0, after scoring just 2:44 into the game, when a hard cross by Greta Thibodeau deflected off Willamette goalkeeper Kari Woody and into the net. The Bearcats answered with a goal at 16:48 by Rachel Janny, assisted by Laura Uhlmansiek. Uhlmansiek scored WU's second goal just over five minutes later at 21:52. Meghan Anderson assisted on the goal and later provided an insurance score with a goal at 42:29. Neither team scored in the second half. Woody finished the game with five saves for the Bearcats. Leah Motz earned two saves for the Pirates. Both teams took 10 total shots. Whitworth placed six shots on goal and Willamette had five shots on goal. The Pirates achieved a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.
