SALEM - Well it’s week four for Oregon high school football, and let the conference games begin! In the Central Valley Conference it’s the annual showdown between cross-town rivals North Salem and South Salem who will play in what some call the “Mayors Cup”, which the Vikings have not won since I graduated from North in 1989.

The Saxons (1-2) are hoping to even their record against the Vikings (2-1) who’s defense is one of the best in the conference. In their first three games, North Salem’s defense is allowing an average of just over 15 points per game, while the Saxons offense is scoring the same. This should be a close, tough, physical game.

Defending league champion Sprague, their play-off hopes almost gone, travel to West Salem to face who many feel will win the conference this year.

The Olympians (0-3), played much better football last week in a loss to the Evergreen Plainsman from Vancouver, Washington, 17-14. The Titans (1-1) are looking for redemption after their first loss of the season last week to Roseburg, 31-21.

McNary is on the road to face cross-town rival McKay. The Celtics (2-1) defense is the best in the conference giving-up just over 11 points per game. The Royal Scots (1-2) need to play better on both sides of the ball. The Scots offense so far has been hit and miss, scoring 21, 40, and 9 in their first three games. The defense in their first two game was solid, however last week they gave-up 38 points to the North Medford Black Tornado.

Redmond will be on the road for a non-conference game with Milwaukie. The Panthers (1-2) should came away with an easy victory. The Mustangs (0-2) defense has given-up 30 and 55 points, while their offense has scored just 7 points in their first two games.
