JAMAICA, N.Y. - Oregon State forward Emily Henshaw became the sixth different freshman to score a goal this season for the Beaver women’s soccer team, and it was a big one as it came in the 78th minute and lifted OSU to a 1-0 road victory over St. John’s on Tuesday night at Belson Stadium.

St. John’s (5-1-1) was undefeated coming into the game and was ranked #8 and #9 in the Northeast Region by Soccer Buzz and the NSCAA, respectively.

On the goal, freshman defender Red Nixon sent in a corner kick from the right side. Senior midfielder Kelli Washburn got her head on it at the near post, and the ball was deflected to Henshaw, who kicked it through the goalkeeper’s legs for her first collegiate goal.

Ten different players have now scored goals for OSU this season. Last year, only five players total got on the scoreboard.

St. John’s attempted only four shots thanks to a strong defensive effort by the Beavers, and senior goalkeeper Melissa Onstad didn’t have to make any saves to earn the team’s fourth shutout of the season. It was Onstad’s 23 career shutout, extending her own school record.

Goals: Emily Henshaw (Kelli Washburn), OSU, 77:33.

Shots: OSU 8, SJU 4

Corner Kicks: OSU 3, SJU 5

Fouls: OSU 5, SJU 6

Saves: OSU 0, SJU 2
