Willamette Women’s Soccer Team Ranked 18th in NCAA Division III

The Bearcats will play their third consecutive road game on Saturday at Lewis & Clark College.

MISSION, Kansas - The Willamette University women’s soccer team has moved into the NCAA Division III National Rankings conducted by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

The Bearcats, who are 5-0-1 on the season and 2-0-0 in the Northwest Conference, are #18 in the rankings released today. Willamette is tied for #2 in the West Region Rankings, also released today.

Willamette tied the University of California-Santa Cruz, 0-0 in two overtimes, last week when the Banana Slugs were ranked #14 in the National Rankings. Over the weekend, Willamette picked up a pair of NWC wins by defeating Whitman College, 1-0, on Saturday, Sept. 16, and by downing 22nd-ranked Whitworth, 3-1, on Sunday, Sept. 17. Both games were played on the road.

Following the game at Lewis & Clark, the Bearcats will return to Salem, to host their third nationally-ranked opponent in five games, as Willamette takes on the University of Puget Sound in a Northwest Conference match-up on Sunday at noon.

Puget Sound, currently 4-0-1 overall and 2-0 in the NWC, is ranked #3 in the NSCAA National Rankings and #1 in the West Region.

Willamette has allowed a total of just two goals in six games this season. Goalkeeper Kari Woody owns a 0.35 goals against average and has recorded three solo shutouts and one combined shutout. She has played 515 of the team’s 560 minutes. Willamette has achieved a team goals against average of 0.32.
