SALEM - THIS WEEK: After one conference and one non-conference match last week, Corban prepares to hit the road this week for a pair of conference matches. On Friday, the Warriors will travel south to Klamath Falls for a match against the Hustlin’ Owls of Oregon Tech beginning at 7:00 PM. On Saturday, Corban continues its road trip with a conference match against Southern Oregon, who received votes in the latest NAIA coaches’ poll. SERIES NOTES: Corban and Oregon Tech have met twenty-seven times in the series history with the Warriors winning 17-out-of-27 matches. Last season, Oregon Tech swept the series winning in five games in Salem and three games in Klamath Falls. Corban and Southern Oregon have met 36 times in the series history with the Lady Raiders holding the advantage, 29-7. In 2005, nationally-ranked Southern Oregon took both meetings via three game sweeps. LAST WEEK: The Warriors continued conference action last week with one match versus conference rivals Concordia before taking a mini-break against non-conference NCAA Division II member Dixie State College of Utah. On Friday, the Warriors traveled north to Portland for a match-up with the Cavaliers of Concordia and upon arriving found out that it would be Concordia’s second opponent of the day. Earlier in the afternoon, the Cavaliers were swept by the Rebels of Dixie State and then proceeded to take the match that night from Corban in four games (18-30, 25-30, 30-27, 19-30). Seniors Nina Clanton and Hallie Hofferd led the Warriors with 11 kills each, while sophomores Chelsea Reeher and Jessica McGraw added 9 and 7 respectively. McGraw, along with freshman setter Amy Thompson , combined for 40 assists, with McGraw leading the Warrior offense with 22. Senior libero Becky Horn had her consecutive match streak of 30-or-more digs snapped at three thanks to a match-high 20 digs. On Saturday, Corban welcomed NCAA Division II member Dixie State College of Utah and for the second straight day found out that they would be the team’s second opponent of the day. Prior to arriving in the Capitol city, Dixie State took a match from NCAA Division III member George Fox in four games. After taking the opening game (30-25), the Warriors went toe-to-toe with the Rebels only to come up just short in a 3-1 loss (30-25, 28-30, 29- 31, 25-30). Hofferd and Clanton led Corban once again with 13 kills each, while Reeher and McGraw registered 10 and 6 respectively. Making her first collegiate start, freshman Kristina Lewin recorded 5 kills and 5 digs, while McGraw and Thompson handed out a combined 39 assists. Horn began her consecutive streak again with a match high 37 digs, while McGraw, Hofferd, and Clanton recorded dig totals of 22, 12, and 11 respectively. LIBERO OF THE WEEK: In the second Player of the Week voting so far this season, senior Becky Horn was named Cascade Collegiate Conference and NAIA Region I Libero of the Week for the week ending on September 9th. In three matches, the 5-foot-6 defensive specialist totaled 99 digs (avg. 8.25 per game), including a high of 36 in a tough five-game loss to the Eagles of Northwest. So far this season, Horn has accumulated six 30-plus dig matches, including a NAIA and season-high of 49 versus Lewis-Clark State earlier this season at the Holiday Inn Region I Challenge. This is the third time that Horn has been named Libero of the Week since she joined the women’s volleyball program at the start of the 2005 season.
