SALEM - In its second straight match against a nationally-ranked opponent, Corban's women's soccer team was helped in the final seconds of regulation by an own goal only to see the game end five minutes into overtime.

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' No. 14-ranked Clan of Simon Fraser scored the game-winning goal in the 95th minute to beat Corban, 2-1, on Thursday at Warrior Field.

Just over twenty-seven minutes into the game, Simon Fraser was awarded a penalty kick when freshman defender Cassie Ribeiro committed a foul just inside the penalty box. The Clan's Hailey Rawlings, who was the player that was fouled, stepped up from 12 yards out and put the first goal of the game on the board when she beat senior goalkeeper Kim Mendenhall into the lower left corner.

Over the next sixty-one minutes, Corban seemed to control the offensive flow and began to making the nationally-ranked Clan do a lot of back-peddling. With 13 seconds left in regulation, Corban lofted a pass toward SFU's goal. In an attempt to either pass the ball back to the keeper or clear it out of bounds, Simon Fraser scored an own goal that knotted the game at 1-all and forced the Warriors' second overtime game of the season.

Five minutes in the extra period, Rawlings ended the game on a one-timer, past Mendenhall, after working with teammates Emma Broadfoot and Jacqueline Gant in the 95th minute.

Corban senior Lyndsey Hawk and junior Megan Waunch each led the Warriors with three shots, while senior Charissa Bernard and sophomore Leana Pomeroy got off two shots each.

After being out shot 9-5 over the first forty-five minutes, Corban came out in the second half and dominated offensively. The Warriors got off six more shots (9-3) than the Clan, but were held without a shot in the extra period.

Mendenhall ended the game with six saves, while Simon Fraser's net-minder Cassie Newbrook needed to record a game-high 7 seven saves in order to record the victory.

Corban is now 3-7-0 overall, while Simon Fraser improves to 4-3-0.
