SALEM - THIS WEEK: After playing three games last week, including two conference matches, Corban welcomes a mini-break with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics’ (NAIA) No. 12-ranked Clan of Simon Fraser.

SERIES NOTES: Corban and Simon Fraser have met 12 times in the series history with the Clan winning 10-out-of-11 games with 1 tie.

Last season, the two teams battled to a 0-0 tie in Burnaby, British Columbia. Then-junior goalkeeper Kim Mendenhall registered a season high 13 saves in 110 minutes of action.

LAST WEEK: Corban played three times last week, including a non-conference game versus San Diego Christian in Southern California and two home conference matches versus Cascade and the NAIA’s No. 6-ranked Concordia.

The Warriors kicked off the week near the Happiest Place on Earth – Disneyland – but came home without smiles on their faces due to a 2-0 loss at the hands of Golden State Athletic Conference member San Diego Christian. Junior Megan Waunch and senior Charissa Bernard each registered 3 shots, while senior goalkeeper Kim Mendenhall recorded a game-high 4 saves in 77 minutes of action.

Three days later, Corban kicked off the 2006 conference portion of its schedule with the first-ever “Soccer Under the Lights” game versus the Lady Thunderbirds of Cascade.

In a defensive battle for the first 80 minutes, neither team cracked its opponent’s goal until Waunch teamed up with freshman Kacie Emerick for the game-winning goal in the 81st minute.

Less than four minutes later, Waunch teamed with freshman forward Marissa Walter for the first collegiate goal of Walter’s career in the 85th minute. Mendehall needed to make a mere 4 saves (all in the first half) to record her 14th career shutout and third win of the season.

On Saturday, Corban hosted the NAIA’s No. 6-ranked Cavaliers of Concordia and was shown why their opponents from Portland were ranked so high.

The Warriors were dominated throughout the entire game, which resulted in a 5-0 loss for Corban. Concordia’s defense teamed with its potent offense to hold the Warriors without a shot the entire game, while scoring goals in the 3rd, 12th, 20th, 30th, and 48th minutes. Mendenhall registered a game-high 7 saves, while facing a conference season-high 21 shots.

CLIMBING THE LADDER: In two-and-a-half seasons, junior Megan Waunch has proceeded to climb up the ladder of career leaders in Warrior history. Coming into the season, the 5- foot-4 junior was 10th among the career leaders in points (47) and goals (18), while sitting a mere 4 assists away from cracking that top-10. In nine games this season, Waunch has moved into a tie for 9th all-time in points (58), tied for 7th all-time in goals (21), and tied for 10th all-time in assists (16).

POINT LEADERS: So far this season, junior forward Megan Waunch sits alone atop of the points standing thanks to 3 goals and 5 assists (11 points). Right behind her with 6 points are seniors Charissa Bernard and Lyndsey Hawk, along with freshman Kacie Emerick (1 goal & 4 assists) this season. In nine games, Waunch has cracked 22 total shots and Bernard has unloaded 19 of her own towards the net.

HITTING THE CENTURY MARK: In ten-plus seasons on the bench, eleven-year head coach Marty Ziesemer has surpassed the century mark in two separate categories. One is the number of wins (125), while the other is the total number of losses (103) on his coaching record.

In his career with the Warriors, Ziesemer is 125-103-11 overall. During the 2003 season, Ziesemer picked up his 100th win in the final game of the season thanks to a 4-1 victory over Spring Arbor at the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) national tournament.

This season, the former member of Corban’s men’s soccer program suffered his 100th career in overtime versus Linfield.

PLENTY OF GOOSE EGGS: Senior goalkeeper Kim Mendenhall recorded shutouts against the University of Great Falls and Cascade this season, which gives her 14 career goose eggs. Currently, Mendenhall sits 13 shutouts away from the all-time career record holder – former Warrior Chrissy Cacioppo (1999-2000, 2002) – with 27.
