PORTLAND - After trading goals in the first half, the visiting George Fox University Bruins and home-standing Lewis & Clark College Pioneers battled through the second half and two 10-minute overtimes to a 1-1 draw in a Northwest Conference women’s soccer game Thursday night here at Griswold Stadium.

The Pioneers took a 1-0 lead 22:46 into the game when a Katie Burnett corner kick deflected off a Bruin defender and into the net past George Fox goalkeeper Jessica Cardwell for an ‘own goal’.

Just over six minutes later, Molly Schafer scored the tying goal for the Bruins at 28:49 on a breakaway when Lewis & Clark goalie Nora Germano came out of the net to challenge the run.

Lewis & Clark controlled the tempo of the game, taking 18 shots, 13 on goal, to George Fox's four, all on goal. The Pioneers also had six corners to none for the Bruins. Cardwell had 12 saves while Germano logged three.

George Fox (3-2-1, NWC 1-1-1) plays its first home game of the season Saturday when the Bruins host Pacific Lutheran University. Lewis & Clark (2-4-1, NWC 0-2-1) also plays Saturday, hosting Willamette University. Both games begin at 12 noon. The GFU-PLU game will be followed by a men’s conference game at 2:30 PM.
