Wildcats Win Willamette Invitational

Linfield packs its bags for a trip to Colorado Springs, Colo., next weekend. The Wildcats are scheduled to compete in the Colorado College Invitational, where they’ll meet Elmhurst and host Colorado College on Friday. Saturday’s slate has Linfield meeting NWC foe Pacific Lutheran along with Concordia-Austin.

SALEM - Linfield brought home the championship crown of the Willamette Invitational, rolling through the tournament without losing a game in three scheduled matches.

The 15th-ranked Wildcats (3-0) followed up Friday night’s sweep of Evergreen State with whitewashes on Saturday of host Willamette and UC-Santa Cruz.

Led by the dozen kills of Lauren Kreiger and Lisa Brocard, the Wildcats topped the Bearcats 30-15, 30-18, 30-23. The Wildcats hit .320 to the Willamette’s .047, and collected seven blocks to the Bearcats’ four.

Wildcat setters Chelsey Gellatly and Stephanie Purser combined for 33 assists, and Kreiger dug a team-high 16 balls.

The offensive efficiency continied for the Wildcats against UC-Santa Cruz, as Kreiger hammered 15 kills and Molly Taylor contributed 10 kills in 19 attempts.

The Wildcats also took advantage of pinpoint serving, as Meghan Flink, Michelle Wyatt and Hannah Veley each chipped in with two aces. Wyatt registered a team-high 10 digs.
