BROOKLYN, N.Y. - A last-gasp goal by freshman forward Jessica Velazquez in the 89th minute helped the Oregon State women’s soccer team to a 1-1 tie at Long Island on Friday night.

Long Island (3-5-1) is undefeated in its last 21 home games, with 19 wins and two ties. The Blackbirds’ last home loss was in 2003.

Long Island had taken the lead on a 75th-minute goal by Caley Troutman, but the Beavers responded with less than two minutes to play in regulation. Junior forward Jodie Taylor sent in a free kick, and it was deflected to Velazquez at the top of the box. She blasted a shot past the goalkeeper at 88:19 for her team-high fifth goal of the season.

The Beavers had a couple of strong opportunities in overtime, but the game ended in a tie. Fennah credited the performance of senior goalkeeper Melissa Onstad, who had six saves in the game.
