Sep-23-2006 14:25Corban Swept in Three Game by OITSalem-News.com SPORTSThe Warriors will return to conference action on Saturday, when they face-off with nationally-ranked Southern Oregon beginning at 2:00 PM in Ashland.
KLAMATH FALLS - Sophomore Chelsea Reeher and senior Nina Clanton recorded 8 and 6 kills respectively, but Corban's women's volleyball team was swept in three games (26-30, 15-30, 17-30) by the Hustlin' Owls of Oregon Institute of Technology on Friday. Playing all nine available players for the first time all season, eighteen-year head coach Tracy Smith watched as five players recorded 3-or-more kills each with Reeher and Clanton leading the way. In the opening game, Corban recorded its highest team kill total (10) of the night, but could not overcome Oregon Tech's 16 kills along with 9 hitting errors by the Warriors. In the closest game of the night, a highly potent offensive attack by the host Hustlin' Owls was the difference in a 4-point win (30-26) for the team from Klamath Falls. The final two games were not something that Corban would like to remember, as the Warriors committed a combined 21 attack errors compared to only 15 kills. In Game #2, the Warriors' kills were equal to their attack errors (7-to-7), while the third and final game had more attack errors (14) than kills (8). Corban was defeated by a combined 28 points over the final two games, as Oregon Tech took the middle game (30-15) and the third and final game (30-17) en route to securing the three-game sweep. Junior Ashley Lange attempted to aid Reeher and Clanton with 4 kills, while sophomore Jessica McGraw and freshman Kristina Lewin each added 3 kills. McGraw paced Corban's offense with a team-high 13 assists, while senior libero Becky Horn anchored the Warriors' back line with a match-high 17 digs. In twelve matches this season, McGraw has recorded a double-double with 10-or-more assists and 10-o-r-more digs in 10 matches, while recording the only two triple-doubles in the NAIA versus Willamette (Sept. 5th) and Northwest (Sept. 9th). Oregon Tech was led by Krista Wooley's match-high 13 kills, while Cathy Savage and two other Hustlin' Owls added 7 and 6 respectively. Megan Albertson guided Oreogn Tech's attack with a match-high 27 assists, while Maggie Roberts and Krystie Vea anchored the Hustlin' Owls' back line with a team-high 11 digs each. Corban is now 2-10 overall, 0-6 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Oregon Tech improves to 12-3 overall, 6-1 in CCC action.
