FOREST GROVE - Whatiman used an eight minute scoring flurry midway through the first half, paced by two goals from Kristen Berndt, to give the Missionaries to their first win of the season with a 5-1 decision over Pacific Saturday in Northwest Conference women's soccer action at Tom Reynolds Field. Whitman (1-2-0, 1-2-0 NWC) dominated the offensive end of the field most of the match, outshooting the Boxers (2-2-2, 0-2-1 NWC) 13-9 for the match. Pacific took most of their chances in the second half, while the Missionaries held advantage throughout the first half and in the final minutes of the match. Pacific goalkeeper Shannon Tillman made five saves in the loss. Whitman starting netminder Erica Goad made one save, while substitute Courtney Porter made two stops in 24 minutes of work in the second half. Sammie Arthur opened scoring for Whitman in the 25th minute. Arthur was positioned on the far corner of the six-yard box when Alisa Larson-Xu sent a ball in from the near side and connected to the right corner of the net. Three minutes later, Kristen Berndt buried a header from point blank range, catching Tillman out of position on Alyssa Ginkle's cross. Berndt continued the first half scoring barrage in the 31st minute, connecting on her second goal in the stanza off of a far side throw in from Kristen Middlestedt to give the Missionaries a 3-0 halftime lead. Tessa Krebs put Pacific on the board in the 82nd minute, connecting off a cross right in front of the net by Becca Roth. Lindsay took the tally right back for the Missionaries a minute later, connecting to the right corner off of Molly Gordon's corner kick. Ginkle added a punctuation mark for Whitman in the 85th minute when Liz Forbes' long crossing pass pulled Tillman out to the 18-yard box. Ginkle took the pass and ran to the left side, easily connecting on the goal.
