Sep-24-2006 14:19Warriors Drop Rematch With Thunderbirds, 4-1Salem-News.com SPORTSThe Warriors will be next in action on Tuesday, when they go head-to-head in a conference match with the Knights of Warner Pacific.
PORTLAND - Junior Caleb Louvier extended his points streak to four games on Saturday thanks to a late goal, but Corban's men's soccer team dropped the early-season rematch to the Thunderbirds of Cascade College, 4-1. After falling behind 4-0, Louvier teamed with fellow junior Andrew Brown for his team-leading 6th goal of the season. Brown found Louvier with a long ball, that the 5-foot-10 midfielder deposited into the back of the net to keep his points streak alive. Over the past two weeks, Louvier has accumulated all his points so far this season via 6 goals (including a hat trick versus cross-town rival Willamette) and 1 assist. Cascade's Mark Towers scored a pair of goals (22nd & 82nd minute), while Gerardo Cifuentes notched the other two T-bird goals (69th & 74th minute). Brandon Nolan, Kevin Youatt, and Adalberto Angulo each handed out an assist on one of Towers' two goals, while both of Cifuentes' goals were unassisted. Following Cascade's fourth and final goal (81:10 into the game), Louvier and Brown wasted no time in putting Corban on the board, as the duo teamed up to score the Warriors' lone goal 29 seconds later. Unfortunately, it was too little, too late for Corban as they dropped their second straight game following a four-game unbeaten streak. Sophomore goalkeeper James DelCastillo, who was making his first start in between the pipes since defeating Willamette, registered 2 saves. Meanwhile, Cascade's net-minder -- Anthony Trejo -- snagged a game-high 4 saves en route to securing the conference victory. Corban now finds themselves at 3-4-1 overall, 1-2-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. On the other hand, Cascade improves to 6-2-0 overall, 1-2-0 in CCC play following a season-opening four-game winning streak.
