Belgium Tennis Standout Joins Ducks

The men’s tennis team will release its schedule for the upcoming season on Tuesday.

EUGENE - Alexander Cornelissen, a standout from Lauwe, Belgium has agreed to accept an athletic scholarship to play tennis at the University of Oregon, director of tennis Nils Schyllander announced Monday.

“We are very excited to have Alex aboard,” director Schyllander said. “He has been one of the top junior players in Belgium and he brings a great amount of experience to the program. We feel he can contribute immediately.”

Athough they do not rank junior players in Belgium, Schyllander was confident in calling Cornelissen one of the top five junior players in Belgium and he believes that Cornelissen’s game will translate well to the American hardcourt surface.

“Alex will be an impact player as a freshman,” Schyllander said. “His agressive style will make him a force in the Pac-10 and he is an exceptional doubles player as well.”
