SALEM - Willamette University's nationally ranked women’s soccer team swept the Northwest Conference Player of the Week awards following their two conference wins last weekend, including a 3-0 victory over then 3rd-ranked the University of Puget Sound.

Senior goalkeeper Kari Woody earned her second straight NWC Defensive Player of the Week award after posting shutouts against Lewis & Clark College on Saturday, Sept. 23rd, and versus the University of Puget Sound on Sunday, Sept. 24th. Woody achieved a combined eight saves (four in each game), and now has five solo shutouts on the season. She leads a Bearcat defense that has given up just two goals in eight games.

On the offensive side, Bearcat freshman forward Meghan Anderson was named NWC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring two goals and assisting on another in WU’s two victories. Anderson’s two goals came against Lewis & Clark, while her assist was recorded against Puget Sound. She is now second on the team in scoring with 12 points on four goals and four assists.

The Bearcats moved up from #18 to #6 in this week's NSCAA/adidas National Rankings for NCAA Division III and also took over the top spot in the West Region Rankings. Puget Sound had been ranked #1 in the West and #3 in the nation.
