Sep-28-2006 20:56Beavers Wrestling Team Inviting Fans to Practice SessionsSalem-News.com SPORTSOregon State is in its first season under head coach Jim Zalesky, who guided Iowa to three team titles at the NCAA Championships, won three individual titles as a wrestler, and was named the 1980s Wrestler of the Decade by Amateur Wrestling News.
CORVALLIS - Oregon State’s wrestling team is inviting the public to attend its practice sessions each of the next two Saturdays at the Truax Indoor Center. The practices will begin three hours before the scheduled kickoff for OSU’s home football games on each of those days at nearby Reser Stadium. This Saturday, the Beavers will workout from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM and then Oregon State’s football team will meet California at 1:00 PM. On Oct. 7th, Oregon State’s wrestlers will practice from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM, and OSU’s football team will play Washington State at 4:00 PM. Oregon State is in its first season under head coach Jim Zalesky, who guided Iowa to three team titles at the NCAA Championships, won three individual titles as a wrestler, and was named the 1980s Wrestler of the Decade by Amateur Wrestling News. On Zalesky’s staff are assistant coach Troy Steiner, who earned a NCAA title; assistant coach Kevin Roberts, who was a two-time All-American; assistant coach Travis Pascoe, who earned All-America honors; and Orange Crush Wrestling Club coach Stryder Davis, who was a two-time NAIA national champion. The Beavers return five qualifiers from the 2006 NCAA Championships: Eric Stevenson at 125 pounds, Bobby Pfennigs at 133 pounds, Kyle Larson at 141 pounds, Jeremy Larson at 174 pounds and Ty Watterson at heavyweight. Oregon State opens its regular season on Nov. 14th when the Beavers host Portland State at 7:00 PM at Gill Coliseum in a Pac-10 dual meet.
