Crusaders Clip Wolves, 1-0

MONMOUTH - Northwest Nazarene used an own goal in the first half and kept Western Oregon off the scoreboard in the second half in posting a 1-0 women’s soccer victory on Friday afternoon at the WOU Soccer Field.

The win improved NNU’s record to 6-6-0 overall and 2-3-0 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. Western Oregon dropped to 5-6-2 on the year and to 0-4-1 in the GNAC.

Western Oregon outshot the Crusaders in the first half 9-6, and 6-3 in shots on goal. But NNU had the only score of the opening 45 minutes after a Alyssa Isaman cross from the right side found a scrum of players in front of the goal, bouncing off a WOU player into the net. NNU led at the break, 1-0.

A majority of the second half was also played on the WOU offensive end of the field, but the Wolves couldn’t find the goal. NNU’s Amanda Merrell had nine saves on the day for the visitors.

Western Oregon outshot NNU 17-12 and 9-7 on goal, but couldn’t find the net, nor their first conference win of the season.
