TEMPE, AZ - No replay needed to decide this one! The 14th-ranked Oregon Ducks looked well rested, and their offense and defense was just as hot as the weather Saturday in Tempe, cruising to a 48-13 over the Arizona State Sun Devils. The Ducks defense, decimated by injuries this season, held the Sun Devils to just 33 passing yards and 178 yards of total offense. Oregon sacked Arizona State quarterback Rudy Carpenter six times. They only allowed the Sun Devils into the red zone three times, giving-up just two field goals. Oregon’s offense looked like one of the best in the country racking-up 574 total yards, 314 yards on the ground. Oregon was led by quarterback Dennis Dixon who threw for 214 yards and three touchdowns. Dixon also rushed for 31 yards on 9 carries. Jaison Williams had 10 catches for 137 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Jonathan Stewart rushed for 142 yards on 12 carries. The only bright spot for the Sun Devils was running back Ryan Torain who rushed for 113 yards on 19 carries. Oregon Head Coach Mike Bellotti said he was pleased overall with the win, but said he was disappointed once again with his teams kickoff coverage. Ducks defensive tackle Cole Linehan left the game with a broken foot. Bellotti said he hoped to get Linehan back in time for the Civil War game at Oregon State, Friday, Nov. 24th. Oregon Defensive Coordinator Nick Aliotti said he was extremely happy with his defense. “Because of the heat and injuries, we played more guys today than ever before, and very, very pleased with the win” Aliotti said With the win the Ducks moved to 4-0 overall, 2-0 in the Pac-10. Arizona State is now 3-2 overall, and 0-2 in the Pac-10 with the loss.
