COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Linfield’s men’s soccer team sustained its first loss of the season Monday at Colorado College, 2-1 in a nonconference game.

In a sense, it was a triple loss for the Wildcats. Besides the game on the field:

Linfield’s six-game winning streak dating to last October was ended.

In a change of protocol, Colorado College decided Sunday's game also would decide the championship of the Bill Boddington Tournament.

Linfield had been declared champion of the four-team tournament on Saturday. The Wildcats and Colorado College both had 2-0 records but Linfield was announced as the winner because it scored four more goals (9-5).

Monday’s game originally was supposed to be simply a non-conference meeting and not part of the tournament.

C’est la vie.

The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead in the first minute on Monday. Nick Powers took a back-pass inside the box from Adam Jaffe on the end line and put it in.

Colorado College tied the score later in the first half when a direct kick was deflected into the goal by a Linfield defender.

The winning goal, a kick to the far post, was scored off a corner kick with about 15 minutes left to play.

Linfield’s Travis Isaacs was just wide with a header in the final minutes.

As if the result of the game wasn’t disheartening enough, Linfield’s vans were caught in traffic en route to the airport and were in danger of missing their flight home Sunday night, coach Eric Watson said.

The Wildcats open their conference season Sept. 17th. at Puget Sound.
