Wolves Drop GNAC Opener to Vikings, 3-0

BELLINGHAM, Wa. - Western Washington used a balanced attack and a .300 hitting percentage to roll to a 30-20, 30-25, 30-21 conference-opening volleyball win over Western Oregon on Thursday Night at Carver Gymnasium.

The victory improved the Vikings' record to 5-4 on the year and 1-0 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. The Wolves dropped to 2-9 on the year and 0-1 in league play.

Western Oregon held brief leads in games one and three, but other than that everything went the Vikings way in Bellingham. Jamie Anderson and Angie Alvord had 11 kills each and Marissa Hill added 10 in an effort that was spread around all Vikings. Alvord added eight total blocks, Hill six, and setter Katie Robinson posted 42 assists and had three aces in the three-game match.

Courtney Schneider had 21 digs for the hosts.

Western Oregon, who has played 11 straight matches on the road, hit just .058 on the evening. Keyanna Jenkins had seven kills and two aces for the Wolves, and setter Lisa Tedder had 11 digs.

WOU will finally makes it 2006 home debut this Saturday night, hosting Saint Martin's at the Physical Education Building. Start time is 7:00 PM.
