American Intactivist Urges Denmark to Respect Male Human Rights

All over the world, boys, girls, and intersex children share stories like mine. The context varies, the method of mutilation varies, the language varies, but one thing thing cuts across all of these stories – we resent what was done without our consent. Moral leadership is key to standing strong on the issue.

Historic European Circumcision Debate Draws Nearly 300

Previous Resolution Called Circumcision a Violation of Physical Integrity

(BOSTON) - Cutting tools for circumcision The growing European debate about circumcision led to the first international interdisciplinary dialogue on the subject recently at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, France (video). This major meeting discussed an October non-binding resolution overwhelmingly passed by the Council of Europe, an organization of 47 member States.

The resolution called circumcision, among other procedures, a violation of the physical integrity of children according to established human rights standards.

Choosing Not to Circumcise - Last Frontier of Jewish Inclusion?

How can synagogues make their members — and prospective members — feel more welcome?

(SAN FRANCISCO) - Parents washed their son's feet (Brit Rechitzah) as a symbolic sign of Jewish covenant and welcoming, rather than circumcising him. Some synagogues send a message of inclusion, stating on their websites that they welcome gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Jews, Jews of color, disabled Jews and interfaith families.

But there’s one Jewish minority that’s rarely, if ever, mentioned: the growing number of Jewish parents who choose not to circumcise their newborn sons.

(BOSTON) - ISRAEL: Jewish Mom Makes Case for Intactivism. The Jewish Circumcision Resource Center, representing Jews around the world who question circumcision and choose not to circumcise their sons, submitted a petition to the Israeli Supreme Court.

It supports a mother who wants to forgo circumcision and has over 35,000 signatures.

(COPENHAGEN) - At the Bris Shalom, the parents washed their son's feet (Brit Rechitzah) as a symbolic sign of Jewish covenant March 1980: a man drives into a neighborhood south of Copenhagen. He stops in front of a terraced house, walks up the stairs to the first floor and into the bedroom where he proceeds to greet the people present. He recites a number of verses – and then he cuts of my foreskin and takes it with him.

32 years later I have grown up to write to you, Bent Lexner, because you are Chief Rabbi and in charge of Jewish circumcisions in Denmark.

(OSLO) - non-therapeutic circumcision of underage boys The medical communities of several European nations are taking a stand against male circumcision.

At a meeting held 30 September 2013 in Oslo, the children's ombudspersons from the five Nordic countries (Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, and Iceland), and the children's spokesperson from Greenland, in addition to representatives of associations of Nordic paediatricians and pediatric surgeons, have agreed to work with their respective national governments to achieve a ban on non-therapeutic circumcision of underage boys.

Council of Europe Adopts Resolution That Opposes Circumcision

The Council of Europe, founded in 1949, is an international organization that promotes cooperation in the areas of human rights, legal standards, and democratic development.

(BOSTON) - Council of Europe Yesterday the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe agreed on a resolution in support of "children's right to physical integrity."

The purpose is to reinforce the protection of children's rights, oppose violence against children, and promote children's participation in decisions that affect them.
