Mother and Father Swept Out to Sea Near Depoe Bay

The family had immigrated to the United States from China in July.

(DEPOE BAY, Ore.) - 49-year old Miaochan Chen, and 41-year old Wenjun Zhu, from Lake Oswego, were visiting the Oregon Coast with their 10-year old daughter.

The group were picnicking off Otter Crest Loop when Chen, Zhu, and their daughter took a trail down to rocks which overlooked the ocean. A wave washed over the rocks and swept Chen and Zhu into the ocean. Their daughter was unharmed.

Toxicology Results from Walker Drowning

These results rule out alcohol as a contributing factor in Walker's death.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Last summer, at about 5:30 pm on August 2nd, OSP responded to the report of a missing swimmer at Walton Beach.

The missing swimmer was identified as 18-year old Jonathan James Walker from Portland. Upon OSP's arrival at approximately 5:40 p.m., Walker had not been seen for approximately 15 minutes.

The cause of the capsized boat is still under investigation.

(DEPOE BAY, Ore.) - The US Coast Guard responded with a motor lifeboat and recovered the body, a deceased male identified as 69-year old Robert Lawrence Zimmel, from Forest Grove.

The Coast Guard notified Oregon State Police and local partner agencies and a search of the area continued. The crew of a US Coast Guard helicopter spotted a second deceased male subject floating nearby.

Death by drowning claims another Portlander

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Walker and a group of friends had been on a boat that was anchored approximately 30 feet off the shore, according to investigators. The group had jumped into the water and began to swim toward the shore when Walker began to struggle.

The investigation is ongoing and alcohol use is being considered as a possible factor.

Search for Young Drowning Victim Suspended

Salem Police and Fire units were on scene for hours to no avail.

(SALEM, Ore.) - The child had been swimming near the old boat ramp of the park and underneath the pedestrian bridge when he appeared to become distressed and in need of help.

Several other people who were in the area attempted to get to the child, but he slipped under the water and out of sight of the would-be rescuers.

This tragedy is a reminder of the high risks swimming in rivers.

(ESTACADA, Ore.) - Upon arrival, rescuers learned from witnesses that the unidentified teen had attempted to swim across the river with friends, two made it across as the third attempted to make the shore. None of the swimmers were wearing personal flotation devices.

Rescuers quickly arrived on scene and learned the swimmer had been under water for about ten minutes before rescue attempts were made.

(MEDFORD, Ore.) - An Ashland man died while swimming in the Pacific Ocean at Whaleshead Beach State Park located on Oregon's south coast.

On Saturday, January 30, 2016 at approximately 2:00 p.m. 23-year old Alexander Howell, from Ashland, was swimming in the Pacific Ocean about 75 yards from shore with a friend, 22-year old Alex Smith from Medford.

Distressed Swimmer Dies After Detroit Lake Rescue

(SALEM, Ore.) - Police say an 18-year old male was attempting to swim across the river with a group of friends. When the friends looked back they had lost sight of him, but quickly found him and helped pull him from the water. CPR was started immediately and he was eventually transported to an area hospital via Life Flight.

18-year old Cody Ellingsworth has been identified as the young man involved in yesterday's incident at Detroit Lake.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - Rescue crews are still searching for the body of a teenager who drowned Friday afternoon while swimming in the Willamette River near the Sellwood Bridge has been recovered.

Portland Fire and Rescue says 18-year-old Mario Antonio Martinez Villalta was swimming with another person from the East Bank of the Willamette River near a construction barge and was having trouble making it back to shore.

(TROUTDALE, Ore. ) - Police say they have recovered the body of a man who drowned in the Sandy River Sunday afternoon at Dabney State Park.

Mutlnomah County Sheriff’s Office says the victim is man in his 40's who they think was swimming when he drowned.
