Volunteer-Built Rescue Vessel Ready to Launch for South China Seas

The group is taking action to save lives after coastal disasters.
(ALAMEDA, CA) -
The rescue boat “T2” that will provide first-line support and humanitarian aid to disaster-hit people is ready to hit the open seas. The boat is the first of a group that will deliver food, fresh water and medical supplies to help coastal communities until governmental or large-scale relief arrives.
International Rescue Group is a 501(c) (3) California Public Benefit Corporation.

7.6 Earthquake Strikes Guerrero, Mexico Near Acapulco

No serious injuries or damage has been reported.
(SALEM, Ore.) -
The 7.6 earthquake struck southern Mexico today at 12:02 P.M. The epicenter was in Oaxaca, in the state of Guerrero,120 miles east of Acapulco.
Tens of thousands of people experienced swaying buildings in Mexico City and beyond, but damage has not been determined and there have been no injuries reported at this time.

Fallout from Fukushima No. 1 on rise

Radioactive materials released from reactor 1 decreased to one-fifth the level in December, but the amount of materials from the other two each increased by 10 million becquerels per hour

The amount of radioactive materials released from the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant has risen this month compared with December, Tepco said.
The amount so far has come to 70 million becquerels per hour, compared with 60 million becquerels in December, Tokyo Electric Power Co. said Monday.

The University of California at Berkeley detected cesium levels in San Francisco area milk above over EPA limits … and even higher than they were 6 months ago.
Finnish public television says that cesium from Fukushima has been detected in lichens, fungi and elk and reindeer meat in Finland.

(LIMA, Peru) -
Southern Peru was shaken by an earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale; buildings rocked and swayed in the country's capitol Lima, home of 8.5 million people, but fortunately no injuries or major damage has been reported.
The US Geological Survey confirms that the temblor, which was initially reported as a magnitude 7.0 quake, was centered 51 km (31 miles) SSW of Ica, Peru, the scene of a terrible earthquake in 2007.

IHH offers helping hand for orphans in Van

IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation which has joined search and rescue and relief efforts in quake-stricken Van province with a 250-member-team, is now offering a helping hand for orphans in the region.
(ISTANBUL) -
The foundation will assume the care of children who were orphaned by the quake as well as other orphans, making them have a monthly income which they will use for their clothing, accommodation, education, healthcare and other expenses. Just making a monthly donation of 35€ or 50$, charity givers can assume the care of an orphan.
In addition, families who already support an orphan in other regions or countries through the Sponsor Family Project can also assume the care of another orphan in Van.

IHH Emergency Teams continue relief efforts in quake-stricken Van

Immediately after the quake, IHH aid teams rushed to the region to join search and rescue efforts.
(ISTANBUL) -
Emergency teams of IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation continue relief efforts in Van’s Erciş district which was hit by a magnitude 7.2 earthquake on Sunday.
The aid teams which rushed to the area immediately after the quake took part in search and rescue efforts throughout the night. IHH Emergency Aid Coordinator Recep Güzel who is in the disaster region said there are still dozens of people under demolished buildings while noting that there is a problem of water shortage in the area.

Experts say it is one of the most grand quakes in modern history; the worst Japan has ever seen, it is rated the 5th worst since 1900.
(JAPAN / HAWAII / WEST COAST) -
Japan has reeled under a massive 8.9 magnitude earthquake. 13-18 foot tsunamis washed ashore; Hawaii and Oregon gave Tsunami Warnings which means an event is expected.
It is a developing situation and whether the west coast will feel the impact is yet to be seen. The quake struck off Japan's east coast near Honshu.
