Oregon Reimbursing Football Players Insurance Premiums

Money provided to the athletic department’s student assistance fund by the NCAA must be used to cover those costs.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Oregon Ducks Football The UO athletic department is reimbursing four families of football players for out-of-pocket expenses related to the purchase of insurance policies for loss of future earnings in the event of an injury, school officials said.

The families of quarterback Marcus Mariota, center Hroniss Grasu, cornerback Ifo Ekpre-Olomu and defensive end Arik Armstead purchased policies this past offseason under the NCAA’s “exceptional student-athlete disability insurance” rule.

Oregon Football Fall Camp Notes Day #5

Don Pellum and the UO defense scored a narrow victory over the offense in a competition day that coincided with the first practice in full pads.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Oregon Ducks Football Friday was a doubly entertaining way to cap the first five days of preseason camp, with Oregon not only in full pads for the first time but engaged in a competition day pitting offense vs. defense.

As can tend to happen this early in camp, the defense had a slight edge most of the way. And as can tend to happen in these competition days, the score narrowed late in practice, to the point that it was anybody’s day with a few reps left.

Ducks Picked to Finish 5th in Pac-12 Volleyball

Oregon finished the season ranked 24th by the AVCA after exiting the NCAA tournament in the second round.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Oregon Ducks Volleyball The Oregon volleyball team was selected fifth in the Pac-12 preseason coaches’ poll, Wednesday, while senior outside hitter Liz Brenner was named to the preseason all-conference team.

The Ducks are coming off a fourth-place conference finish in 2013 with a 12-8 mark in conference and 20-12 overall.

A team period heavy on run plays featured a couple nice Kani Benoit runs, and a couple Armstead stops at the line.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Oregon Ducks Football Monday’s first practice of preseason camp was quite clearly, in small but obvious ways, a first practice of preseason camp.

Conversely, Tuesday’s second practice could easily have been one from late August, or mid-October, or December – from the sidelines, it seemed that intense.

Oregon Sex Offender Arrested for Sex Abuse; Police Looking for Other Victims

Oregon State Police believe there could be more victims.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Melvin Bud Richard Stout Jr. Oregon State Police Criminal Investigations Division arrested a 55-year old Eugene man who is a registered sex offender on allegations that he provided marijuana and alcohol to a 15-year old female and sexually abused the victim.

Oregon Hosts World Junior Championships

Oregon freshmen Christian Brennan (400), Maggie Schmaedick (5,000) and Cole Walsh (pole vault) will each be competing, with Brennan representing the Canadian National Team.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Hayward Field The world’s best junior athletes will converge at Hayward Field this week for the 2014 IAAF World Junior Championships, beginning Tuesday and ending on Sunday, and involved in the fray will be six current and future Ducks.

It will mark the first time in the event’s 14-year history that the world championships are contested on American soil.

Officials Warn of Willamette River Fish Die Offs; Avoid Water Contact

Dead fish located on or near the river, or fish caught from the river near the listed areas should not be consumed.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - River Photo The Department of Environmental Quality has informed the Lane County Sheriff's Office that an
abnormal amount of dead fish have been located on the Willamette River.

The cause of the fish deaths is unknown at this time and is being investigated by Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Department of Environmental Quality.

Eugene Teen Hurt in Skateboarding Accident at State Park

The boy and a girl that was riding with him were wearing a helmet.

(ESTACADA, Ore. ) - Milo McIver State Park A 12-year-old Eugene boy suffered a potentially serious head injury Saturday afternoon when he fell from his skateboard while riding on the entrance road into Milo McIver State Park near Estacada.

Police learned the boy and a juvenile female were skateboarding down the hill on the entrance road followed by the boy's aunt in a motor vehicle.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - child abuse suspect Fredrick Alan Hartstorm The Multnomah County Child Abuse Team detectives are asking for your help in locating a man who has warrants out for his arrest on child abuse charges.

Detectives are looking for 39-year-old Fredrick Alan Hartstorm who is wanted on Sodomy in the First Degree and Sexual Abuse in the First Degree.

Hartstorm is believed to be staying somewhere between Portland and Eugene.
