(GIG HARBOR, WA) -
Sea Shepherd Conservation Society has called for and demanded the immediate removal of Dr Giam Choo-Hoo from the UN’s Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species.
Dr. Giam, a key member of the UN body that helps regulates trade in endangered animals has been accused of being a representative of the shark fin industry, which is driving some species of the fish towards extinction.

Feds to Allow Sea Lion Killings in Oregon

(SEATTLE LID) -
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has granted a five-year permit for the killing of California sea lions that are eating threatened salmon and steelhead near Bonneville Dam in northwest Oregon.
Oregon, Washington and Idaho may each year kill up to 92 sea lions that have a “significant negative impact” on at-risk salmon and steelhead runs on the Columbia River.

A noted human rights activist arrived in Sri Lanka several days ago following an international conference in Rome, and noticed that he was being followed by a van; of course potentially synonymous with the notorious 'White Van' disappearances which Sri Lanka has become internationally noted for.
The suspicious behavior of the group led him to believe that he was in danger of being abducted. Herman Kumara is currently in hiding.

Representatives from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) are expected to be in the area around South Alamo, Texas, from February 6 to 12.

The quality of water in Gaza is deteriorating rapidly, and until another source of water is found, the population in Gaza remains at risk as there is little that can be done as long as the Israel policy of closure continues.

The escalating critical water problem in Gaza can give rise to a major outbreak of waterborne diseases such as cholera which would inevitably spread to the surrounding areas, the Mediterranean coasts and straight into Europe.
All environmental indicators are pointing to this troubling possibility at a catastrophic magnitude, if the current non functioning sewage system in Gaza is not resolved urgently.

Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) Detected in Oil Leaking from Derelict Vessel

A primary and secondary containment area has now been established around the vessel.
(PORTLAND, Ore.) -
Follow up tests of oil samples taken from a 431-foot derelict vessel, Davy Crockett, have detected low levels of PCBs.
Coast Guard, Ecology, Oregon Dept. of Environmental Quality and other agencies responded and are working to cleanup oil and monitor the vessel.
