(LAS CRUCES, N.M.) - In the latest chapter of a long-running border environmental mystery, U.S. federal and state officials plan a visit to south Texas this coming week.

Representatives from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) are expected to be in the area around South Alamo, Texas, from February 6 to 12.

Mandatory Boat Inspections Begin in Oregon

(Salem, Oregon) - Motorists hauling boats in Oregon are now required to stop at boat inspection stations to have their watercraft inspected for aquatic invasive species under a bill signed into law by Gov. John Kitzhaber on Aug. 2, 2011. Failure to stop at an inspection station could result in a $142 fine.

Fish and Wildlife Commission to Meet in Salem

(SALEM, Ore.) - Peregrine falcons, mule deer, and wildlife area parking permits are on the agenda for the Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission’s first meeting of the new year on Friday, Jan. 7, 2011 at ODFW Headquarters, 3406 Cherry Ave NE, Salem.

The Commission will be asked to adopt a parking permit program for 11 additional ODFW wildlife areas. (Sauvie Island Wildlife Area has had a permit program in place since 1990.) Under the staff proposal, wildlife area visitors would be required to purchase either a $7 daily parking permit or a $22 annual permit.

Oregon, Washington to Host Sturgeon Meetings

(CLACKAMAS, Ore.) - Members of the public will get their first look at a new sturgeon conservation plan and be asked to weigh in on management of sturgeon in the lower Columbia and lower Willamette rivers during a series of meetings that will take place the first week of December.
