Feds to Allow Sea Lion Killings in Oregon

The agency pegged the current West Coast population of California sea lions at nearly 300,000
(SEATTLE LID) -
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has granted a five-year permit for the killing of California sea lions that are eating threatened salmon and steelhead near Bonneville Dam in northwest Oregon.
Oregon, Washington and Idaho may each year kill up to 92 sea lions that have a “significant negative impact” on at-risk salmon and steelhead runs on the Columbia River.

A noted human rights activist arrived in Sri Lanka several days ago following an international conference in Rome, and noticed that he was being followed by a van; of course potentially synonymous with the notorious 'White Van' disappearances which Sri Lanka has become internationally noted for.
The suspicious behavior of the group led him to believe that he was in danger of being abducted. Herman Kumara is currently in hiding.

In the latest chapter of a long-running border environmental mystery, U.S. federal and state officials plan a visit to south Texas this coming week.
Representatives from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) are expected to be in the area around South Alamo, Texas, from February 6 to 12.

Fishermen speak out to the world in hopes that their rights to work safely will be restored.
(Besieged Gaza, Occupied Palestine) -
Palestinian fishermen of the Besieged Gaza Strip are calling on the world to force Israel to lift the naval blockade which restricts the Palestinian fishing area to 3 nautical miles.
Their message calls for support of the Oliva and similar peaceful civil missions aimed at monitoring Israeli violations and at ensuring Palestinian fishermen the possibility of fishing in safe conditions.

Local Venice Beach Surfers Rescue Baby Great White Shark

Shark saviors in the South Bay...
(VENICE BEACH, Calif.) -
A baby great white shark caught with a fishing pole from Venice Beach pier was brought to shore by locals, and one actually took out the hook and set the shark back out to sea.
The video is incredible, and it is a fact that very few such occurrences have ever been recorded. A man who has not been identified actually places his hand inside the mouth of the baby Great White in order to pull the hook out.

The Oregon Senate Committee on Environment and Natural Resources voted today to pass out of committee a bill to restrict commercial gillnetting in the Columbia River.
The Committee voted 3-2 to forward Senate Bill 736, commonly known as SAFE for Salmon, to the Senate Rules Committee.

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife will open the upper Snake River for spring chinook fishing on Saturday, April 23. The river will be open to sport fishing seven days a week from Dug Bar Boat Ramp to the deadline below Hells Canyon Dam.
