Oregon Legislature Takes on Houseless Issue in Capitol City

Rep. Hoy filed two Bills to address critical local funding & houseless needs for city of Salem

(SALEM, Ore.) - Recently appointed state Representative Chris Hoy (D-Salem) filed two Legislative Concepts today to help address the growing houselessness needs for City of Salem residents and to bring much-needed funding for the city’s public safety services.

Right now, Salem faces a shelter shortage.

(OKLAHOMA CITY) - Today, when I was out running errands I saw an older woman and a young boy panhandling on the side of a very busy street. Yes, I admit, it was the young boy that gave me pause.

The woman was holding the boy’s hand and with her other hand was holding up one of those handmade, brown, ragged cardboard box signs. It was written in such a way I could not discern her plea but that didn’t matter.

Cold Weather Update - Salem, Oregon: Includes List of Warming Locations

Most Salem area malls can be utilized as warming locations while open.

(SALEM) - Cold weather is projected to continue in the Salem area through the weekend. Residents are urged to use caution and allow extra time for traveling. Also, please check in with friends and neighbors who are elderly or may otherwise need support.

The City of Salem has announced two locations available as warming centers until 9 p.m. through Friday, February 7, 2014.
