Monmouth Man Killed in High Speed Crash

Anyone with information regarding this accident is encouraged to contact the Polk County Sheriff's Office at 503-623-9251.

(INDEPENDENCE, Ore.) - Polk County Oregon Crash A Monmouth man was killed Monday afternoon in a single vehicle accident on Corvallis Road near Haley Road south of Independence.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office says at 3:00 p.m. deputies, Polk County Fire District #1, and Oregon State Police were called to the scene of crash involving a 1989 Honda Civic.

Western Oregon`s Akins Gets Pre-Season Selection

Western Oregon's 2014 schedule features 11 games, with four being played at McArthur Field in Monmouth.

(MONMOUTH, Ore. ) - Western Oregon Football Western Oregon University football student-athlete, Kraig Akins, was tabbed third team All-American by the Beyond Sports Network website.

Akins was named to the defensive line. He was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Defensive Lineman of the Year in 2013.

WOU Football Golf Tournament Aug. 18 in Salem

All proceeds from the tournament benefit the WOU Football Association.

(MONMOUTH, Ore. ) - WOU Logo The Western Oregon University football team is having its 10th annual golf tournament at the Salem Golf Club on Aug. 18.

Costs for those interested in participating in the event are $125 for singles and $400 for foursomes. Sponsorships are also available.

Wolves fall at Hawaii Hilo, 85-78

(HILO, Hawaii) - Western Oregon University Wolves The Hawaii Hilo Vulcans put on a timely 13-2 run in the final three minutes to defeat the Western Oregon men's basketball team, 85-78, on Wednesday (Dec. 15).

Blair Wheadon led the Wolves (6-5, 1-1 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) with 18 points. He scored 15 points in the first half, as he hit 5-of-7 shots from behind the arc. Kyle Long added 17 points, five rebounds and four assists. Tarance Glynn posted 15 points and seven boards, while Kolton Nelson had 10 points and team-leading eight rebounds
