Is Obama Picking a Fight with Russia?

Campaigner Bruce Gagnon interviewed by RT news channel about America's missile defense systems.

(MOSCOW RT) - Gagnon interview on RTV Russia’s President Medvedev sent a sharp warning this week to Western powers over the planned NATO missile shield in Europe. He said if the plans go ahead without guarantees of Russia's safety, Moscow would deploy missiles of its own.

Years of negotiations over the proposed shield, which America wants to place in Turkey and in former Warsaw Pact countries on Russia’s western border, have been deadlocked over the US refusal to agree to Russian participation in the project.

China Moves Troops Into North Korea

A South Korean official downplayed the report saying that it only permits China to come to North Korea's aid in the event of greater instability.

(CHICAGO) - Hwanggumpyong South Korea's daily newspaper is reporting that what Western analysts have feared has happened: Chinese troops have been deployed into North Korea.

The Chinese now have a presence in the rogue state for the first time in more than 15 years.

American Journalists Investigating Human Trafficking Sentenced to 12-Years in North Korean Gulag

One of the last nation's to hold onto hardcore Communism takes another step in the wrong direction.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Laura Ling and Euna Lee both work for Current TV. Two Asian/American journalists associated with former Vice President Al Gore have been sentenced to 12-years in North Korea's notorious prison camps. North Korean Communists charge that Laura Ling and Seung-eun Lee entered the country illegally and are spies.

Sources close to the two journalists say they didn't even enter North Korea, and that they were snatched by North Korean border guards while on Chinese soil.

UN Urges North Korea`s Compliance with Security Council Resolutions

Ban regrets DPR Korea launch, calls for dialog.

(GENEVA) - Salem-News.com Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today expressed his regret that the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) has, against strong international appeals, proceeded with its planned launch, urging the resumption of diplomatic talks.

According to media reports, the East Asian nation launched a rocket this morning, and the Security Council will hold an emergency meeting tomorrow on the issue.

CFR Report Warns U.S. Must Prepare for Potential Instability in North Korea

Council on Foreign Relations says the world needs to pay attention.

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - North Korea's Kim Jong-Il Continuing uncertainties about the health of North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il and possible succession arrangements “warrant heightened attention and preparation” by U.S. policymakers, says a new Council on Foreign Relations report.

“The risks are too great and the stakes too high” for U.S. policymakers “to rely on last-minute improvisation for a peaceful and stable outcome” in nuclear-armed North Korea, says the report sponsored by CFR’s Center for Preventive Action (CPA).
