13th Annual Bites for Rights to be held June 21st

BRO’s most delicious fundraiser of the year hopes to hit 100 spots across Oregon.

(PORTLAND, OR) - Bites for Rights Restaurants, coffee shops, carts, bars and bakeries around the state will donate a generous percentage of their day’s proceeds to Basic Rights Oregon on June 21st.

“This is one of the most fun – and easy – fundraisers we have all year,” said Basic Rights Oregon’s development Director Juan Martinez.

Portland Made Beer Emerged in India`s Parliament

Goddess Kali, who personifies Sakti or divine energy, is widely worshipped in Hinduism.

(NEW DELHI / PORTLAND) - Image of Goddess Kali “Kali-Ma” beer, earlier scheduled to be launched today by a Portland brewery but then cancelled after Hindu protest, was reportedly raised in the upper house of India’s Parliament on May 15 with demand of immediate summoning of US ambassador.

According to reports, it was stated in Rajya Sabha in India’s capital New Delhi on this issue that the religious feelings of Hindus were being hurt.

Portland Brewery Apologizes & Will Rename `Kali-Ma` Beer After Hindus` Protest

Portland brewery does the right thing...

(PORTLAND, OR) - Portland Brewing Company Portland based Burnside Brewing Company, which earlier announced to release its “Kali-Ma” beer on May 15; has apologized, postponed the release and would rename it.

Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, who spearheaded the protest, thanked and commended the Company for taking quick action and for having an understanding for the hurt feelings of Hindu community.

An art exhibition, lectures and Cinco de Mayo celebration will take place in Portland

(PORTLAND, OR) - Mexico to Oregon “From Mexico to Oregon: History, Culture and Identity,” a series of events presented by the University of Oregon’s Latin American Studies Program, will take place May 3 to May 5 at the White Stag Block in Portland.

This year marks the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Puebla, where the Mexican army defeated the French occupying forces on May 5, 1862.
