Well-Known Northwest Motorcyclist Irish McKinney Killed in Accident

McKinney was a generous soul, known for helping others.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Irish and Marjorie McKinney Longtime community advocate 56-year old Irish McKinney was killed in a tragic motorcycle accident near Needles, California on Monday, Aug. 17.

Irish was well-known to the White Center/Burien-area as both an avid Harley rider as well as a tireless fundraiser for the needy, raising over $26,000 for the White Center Food Bank in the last few years, including $15,000 last year, according to Sean Robinson. “That was his passion people...helping...and the motorcycle community,” Sean told The B-Town Blog.

Search For Well Known Writer has Deadly Ending

Karen Sykes planned on writing about the hike for Visit Rainier, a tourism website to which she contributed.

(SEATTLE, Wash. ) - Karen Sykes The three-day search for a well-known outdoors writer who went missing while hiking on Mount Rainier took a grim turn Saturday, when a body was discovered in rough terrain off the trail where she was last seen.

The body has not been officially identified to be that of 70-year-old Karen Sykes, an author who penned the “Hike of the Week” column for the former Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

Six Climbers Missing on Mount Rainier Feared to be Dead

Of the six people, two are guides, from Alpine Ascents International.

(SEATTLE, Wash. ) - mountain climbers Rescue crews are searching for six people who are missing after climbing Liberty Ridge -- 12, 800 feet up -- Mount Rainier in Washington state.

UPDATE:

Park rangers now say they believe the climbers fell some 3,000 feet and could not have survived.

KOMO TV Helicopter Crash Near Seattle Space Needle Kills 2

It is a sad day in Seattle; a photojournalist and a helicopter pilot were lost, a man on the ground was burned and injured, but lived.

(SEATTLE) - KOMO News photographer Bill Strothman and pilot Gary Pfitzner A news helicopter crashed near the Space Needle in Seattle on Tuesday, killing at least two people and seriously injuring one person. The helicopter apparently made one full rotation after takeoff and crashed into three cars around 7:40 a.m. PT.

Former longtime KOMO News photographer Bill Strothman and pilot Gary Pfitzner were identified Tuesday as the two victims killed in the crash of the station's news helicopter, KOMO reports.

NSA Has Capability to Zap Cell Phone Users With RF Energy

Acting Chief of the Regulatory Program for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jennifer Moyer said the agency will not conduct an expanded Environmental Impact State despite a petition from environmental groups in the northwest seeking further study.

(SEATTLE) - MCGINN: More coal production yields more pollution. Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn told members of the U.S. House subcommittee on power and energy Tuesday that coal exports in Washington state would pollute water and air and decrease the quality of life for residents.
