(CHICAGO) - The evening news reports the kidnapping of several hundred children by terrorists, and the anguished statements of our political leaders; however, these same pols are silent as hundreds of elderly and disabled people are kidnapped and herded into abusive guardianships to be ravaged, stripped of their liberty, stripped of their money, and denied all rights of American citizenship.

Unlicensed Contractor Will Go to Prison: Jeffrey Woodhouse Targeted Elderly Customers Door-to-Door

Last week, Linn County Circuit Court Judge Carol R. Bispham sentenced Jeffrey Woodhouse to a new 13 months in prison for theft and working as an unlicensed contractor in the Sweet Home case.

(SALEM) - A construction con man will do prison time for stealing money from an elderly Sweet Home couple who took out a home loan to make a down payment on property improvements.

The couple paid Jeffrey Woodhouse $4,400 to replace siding and paint trim - work he never even started. In fact, the day after the scam, Woodhouse entered prison on similar charges involving other victims.

Deadline Approaching for Property Tax Deferral for Disabled, Senior Citizens

Deferral allows eligible seniors and people with disabilities to have the state pay property taxes on their behalf until they move, sell their home, or die.

(SALEM) - Both current participants that need to recertify their eligibility this year and new applicants for the programs have until April 15 to file the necessary paperwork, according to program manager Bronson Rueda.

"Eligible Oregonians who want their property taxes paid in November must meet the April 15 filing deadline," Rueda said. "If we don't get their forms by April 15, we can't pay their property taxes this year."

(WASHINGTON, DC) - Checking out at the store, the young cashier suggested to the much older woman, that she should bring her own grocery bags because plastic bags weren’t good for the environment. The woman apologized and explained, “We didn’t have this ‘green thing’ back in my earlier days.”

The young clerk responded, “That’s our problem today. Your generation did not care enough to save our environment for future generations.”

Yes, you do get three square meals as part of your rent ticket. But the emphasis is on creating tasty dishes....and not necessarily healthy ones. In fact, for many seniors, mealtime is their primary social outlet. People form clusters for chitchat to have a sense of constancy. That's to counterbalance the sense of loss these older folks get daily from conditions they cannot control.

Just as our vision often gets dimmer and our capacity for hearing decreases with age, our tongues also get older with wear and tear. It is normal to retreat to the memories of an earlier era. The reality is that we older folks simply do not register taste as we used to. Our taste buds are not quite as sharp.
