Willamina Elementary Takes School Lunch to the White House

Lynne Duda, Nutrition Services Director for Willamina School District, to be honored by First Lady Obama at HealthierUS Schools Challenge White House Reception

(WILLAMINA, Ore.) - Lynne Duda Willamina School Nutrition Director Lynne Duda is headed to the White House to attend a reception hosted by First Lady Michelle Obama in honor of the school's accomplishments in serving healthy school meals.

Mrs. Obama invited the Willamina School District official to a July 29 reception on the White House South Lawn honoring participants in the HealthierUS Schools Challenge Program.

Our society is pathologically distorted by money. Even the crime and punishment. Other than that, your opinion is as good as mine.

Willamina Man Dies in Crash on Highway 18 West of McMinnville

Police say the driver tried to correct his error and steer back onto the highway when he lost control causing the pickup to roll.

(McMINNVILLE, Ore.) - Fatal crash near McMinnville, Oregon 4-14-09 Police say a 70-year old Willamina man died this afternoon when the pickup he was driving lost control on Highway 18 about sixteen miles west of McMinnville.

According to Oregon State Police Sergeant Brad Hessel, today at approximately 12:35 p.m., Paul Frederick Boehler was operating a 1987 Ford F250 pickup eastbound on Highway 18 near milepost 25 attempting to negotiate a left curve when the vehicle drifted off onto the shoulder.

Willamina Residents Say Officials Refuse to Help Abandoned Dogs (UPDATE)

Tied on short, kinked chains for weeks on end with no food or water, the dogs appeared to be in misery.

(WILLAMINA, Ore.) - Salem-News.com Residents in a Willamina neighborhood say dogs abandoned for over a month in the front yard of a run down rental, are in poor health, living without regular food and water, and in need of intervention.

Lee and Paulette Grant say law enforcement officials in this rural community at the base of the coastal mountains, haven’t helped these animals so far, and they are at their wits end.

“They have been out here in 100 degree weather,” Paulette Grant said. She and her husband Lee, along with other neighbors here on First Street in Willamina, say it is heartbreaking and they feel there are few choices anyone can make to avoid what they see as a clear case of animal abandonment.
